Where did we get our name?

Dr Gerd D. Luus prayed for a name for his ministry. The Spirit of God directed Dr Luus to the book of Job 14 verse 4, where Job was conversing with his friends. He said: “As for you, you whitewash with lies; worthless physicians are you all.” Dr Luus wanted a name that will be true, stand for truth and not be like other names where people were known to tell lies or was corrupt. Dr Luus then researched for the word “physician” in the Strongs Concordance, where he found that the word Physician also meant “Raphah” which had several implications.

Referring to new growth, healing and restoration. It is also associated with the colour green – hence the lettering of the word being in green

Meaning of the Name:

The Word “Raphah” (pronounced as “Ra-Fa”) means the following:

Healing (spiritually, emotionally, physically)
Restore / restoration
Tall / giant
Be Still and know that I am God (let go / become weak / surrender / release / relax)

Yahweh Rapha – One of God’s names, meaning “to restore”, “to heal” or “to make healthful” in Hebrew. When the two words are combined – Jehovah Rapha – it can be translated as “Jehovah Who Heals.”
Jehovah Rapha – The varying manifestations of God’s tremendous healing power as Jehovah-Rapha can be found in the following biblical passages to combat the following:
- Sickness and infirmity (Psalm 41:3)
- Healing from mental affliction (Jonah 2:5-7)
- Spiritual fatigue (Psalm 23:3)
- Emotional suffering (Psalm 147:3)
- Anxiety or worry (John 14:27)

Raphah (Hebrew) – tall / giant

Rafa is the Spanish diminutive of Rafael, which itself is a spelling variation of the Hebrew name Raphael from Rafa‘el meaning ‘God has healed’
Rapha – “Be still and know that I am God” (The command to “be still” comes from the Hiphil stem of the verb Rapha – meaning to be weak, to let go, to release – which might better be translated as “cause yourselves to let go” or “let yourselves become weak”. To surrender in order to know that God is in control. Let go to know the saving power of God in our lives. We give up trusting in ourselves and our own designs in order to experience the Glory of God’s all-sufficiency (Ex 14:14))

Meaning of colours in our name and logo’s

Colors are used throughout the Old and New Testaments to reflect meanings or spiritual truths. They have a symbolic significance and can remind us of God and his plan for our salvation.

God shows us much more than a simple natural phenomenon when a rainbow appears in the sky after the rains. Even when the Earth was flooded after the great Biblical flood, God showed Noah the rainbow so he could expect miracles.

Green in the Name “Raphah”

Cedars (ever green) were popular especially in Lebanon and were valued as building material. Cedars played some role in the purification rites of Israel (Lev. 14:4; Num. 19:6</>). Cedars represented power and wealth (1 Kgs. 10:27), growth and strength (Ps. 92:12; Eze. 17).

Thus, the colour green represents:

the colour of growth, life (eg vegetation)
the colour of spring (eg. green grass, green trees)
of renewal; restoration
rebirth, new beginning
It renews and restores depleted energy
It is the sanctuary away from the stresses of modern living, restoring us back to a sense of well being (Reference: Psalm 23 “He leadeth me besides still waters…”)

White – Dove

White depicts purity, holiness, and the redemption of sin. When we are forgiven for our sins, by God, we are white as snow (Psalm 51:7)

White also represents the absolute purity of God (as referenced in Daniel 7:9), the purity of Christ (as in Revelation 2:17) and the purity of God’s judgment (found in Revelation 20:11). It also is used to depict God’s complete victory over the powers of evil (as in Zechariah 6:3 and Revelation 6:2 and 19:11).

Meaning of the White – Dove

Raphah has a white dove as a logo. This is not only one white dove – it is actually 2 doves slightly apart from each other, creating a shadow effect or a double outline. It was Holy Spirit inspired. (2 people – Pastors Gerd and Sonja Luus- jointly and individually anointed for this ministry working side-by-side)

Biblical meaning of dove:

It represents the richness and greatness of God (Ps 68:13)
Shows a kind and gentle person, fully reliant on God’s protection (Ps 74:19)
Represents feelings of love, peace and a longing to be with loved ones (Song 2:14)
Someone who is pure and undefiled with inner beauty, true to his mate (Song 5:2)
Shows being guided by the Holy Spirit, not losing direction easily (Matt 3:1, 1 Cor 2:16)

Biblical meaning of a white dove

It symbolizes the Holy Spirit (Matt 3:16, Mark 1:10, Luke 3:22, John 1:32)
It is also an emblem of purity, innocence and harmlessness (Matthew 10:16).
Doves are commonly white in colour, and white in the Scripture represents purity or righteousness (Revelation 19:8).

A pair of doves always symbolizes:

peace, fidelity and love
Double anointing
2 people (as a pair) with their own anointing, but also jointly
