blanket outreach

Blanket Outreaches

Distribution of blankets in the (mostly) winter months to the poor / homeless / less fortunate / destitute. Blankets are also distributed to facilities in the poor areas that take care of children, the elderly, the disabled etc and/or who does not get any/enough funding from the government.

Although a trailer is available for free by a local sponsor,
there is need for:

  • fuel
  • vehicle maintenance
  • refreshments for crew during
  • outreaches tollgate fees (if applicable)
  • vehicle +- 8 seater or more (currently vehicle small and old) to pull trailer and to transport crew/volunteers
  • tyres
  • blankets (new born to adults)

bread outreach

Bread Outreaches

A total of 509 000 loaves of fresh bread, confectionery items and buns were received from local bakeries since 2011 for distribution amongst the poor / homeless / less fortunate / feeding schemes etc.

Although bread was/is sponsored by local bakeries and a trailer is available for free for outreach purposes by a local sponsor, there is still a need for:

  • fuel
  • vehicle maintenance
  • refreshments for crew during outreaches
  • tollgate fees (if applicable) vehicle +- 8 seater or more (currently vehicle small and old) to pull trailer and to transport crew/volunteers tyres bread/buns/confectionery items

Charity shop

Charity Queen

Charity Queen (Charity Shop / Boutique)

  • Shop was launched during May 2022.
  • A "charity shop" with a difference.
  • Upmarket boutique like look/atmosphere and items.
  • A shop 4 charity - fund-raiser to support/fund initiatives for the upliftment and empowerment of woman in our community.
  • Public to donate new/pre-loved items to be sold as a fund-raiser.
  • Shop to form part of Raphah Ministries’ Community centre.
  • Stock will consist of new/gently used items of a high/good quality.

Clothing outreaches

  1. Distribution of clothing amongst the poor / needy / homeless / less fortunate in all communities.

  2. Networking and sharing stock with local churches, welfare agencies, missionaries, schools, government agencies in the serviced areas only.

Community Center

The Ministry plans to develop and set aside a portion of the property for a community centre and/or community centre related services in the very near future. We trust God to be able to launch this project during the course of 2020.

The centre will provide a foundation for the following:

  • Various activities for the whole family
  • Arts/crafts – making & selling
  • Recreational activities
  • Cultural activities
  • Social activities/events/functions
  • Educational programmes/activities/events/functions
  • Spiritual/Christian functions/programmes etc.
  • Tea garden
  • Entertainment for the children, various play areas for children under 12 etc.
  • Farm animals on display or to view.

Community outreaches

Raphah Ministries has various outreach programmes/ initiatives and training/services, such as:
  • Food
  • Blankets
  • Bread
  • Soup Kitchen
  • Clothing
  • Training (Pastors)
  • Training (Food production/farming)

Since 2008 more than 500 000 people have been reached through our various services, outreaches and projects.

Any contribution to assist us to reach out to those less fortunate, will be a blessing and a great help. You can help financially or with items/ingredients/material on the list above.

Pastoral Counselling

Raphah Ministries provide pastoral counselling to both the residents of their (Protective) Haven and the public at large. Anyone is welcome for this service.

The objective is for:

  • Inner healing
  • Deliverance
  • Prayer
  • Restoration
    • Counselling is free of charge.
    • Donations always welcome to cover day-to-day/admin/running costs

Church Services

Raphah Ministries is not a church and therefore we don’t have a congregation. Church services mainly to minister to Haven residents and to address their spiritual needs.

Both founders – Dr Gerd D. Luus (P.hD) and Pastor Sonja Luus – are registered and ordained ministers at FCCA Int.

Both Pastors and Raphah Ministries is affiliated to the FCCA Int., and fall under their covering.

Food Outreaches

Distribution of food / food parcels / food items to the poor / homeless / less fortunate.

Although food is sponsored most of the times and a trailer is available for free for outreach programmes by a local sponsor, there is still a need for:

Food Pantry

The (Protective) Haven, accommodating homeless people, is solely dependent on donations to feed its residents Volunteers, visitors, crew & staff are also provided with meals from the same pantry.

Basic items needed:

  • Veggies (Fresh, frozen, canned)
  • Meat (fresh/canned/processed etc)
  • Fruits (fresh/canned/processed)
  • Bread & buns
  • Bread spreads (butter, etc.)
  • Flavourants (salt, pepper, spices etc.)
  • Pasta, macaroni
  • Soya
  • Rice, mealie meal, eggs (receive donation on a regular basis from sponsor organisations/companies)
  • Oats, other porridges or cereal
  • Sugar
  • Tea (no coffee needed)
  • Cooldrinks/juices
  • Yogurts, fresh cream, milk etc.

Other housekeeping items needed:

  • Detergents
  • Cleaning items (brooms, dusters, etc)
  • Toilet/bath cleaning items
  • Laundry detergents/items

Venue/Church/Facility Rentals

The church hall (main fellowship hall), other venues/rooms as well as certain areas of the facility is available to rent for church/biblical events, church conferences & camps, cell group meetings, conferences in general etc.

Some smaller rooms/venues available to rent for courses, training, meetings, gatherings in general for smaller groups.

  • NO alcohol, drugs allowed
  • Fees available on request
  • Booking deposit required
  • No walk-in books allowed
  • Available 7 days a week

Protective Haven

Care facility for low/no incomers & homeless who are SERIOUS to change their lives for the better. This ministry has a case management approach to service delivery in this division as well as service integration as an important component.

Various programs to empower, grow & uplift. Concept similar to that of rehab centres.

Age : 18 – 60
Gender : Male / Female

  • Accompanied children only (This ministry is not registered as a youth facility and can only take in children if they are in the care of their parent/s)
  • People suffering from serious mental/health issues or with serious disabilities cannot be assisted and will be referred to other more appropriate care facilities to assist as this Ministry is not equipped to address these cases.
    • 3x well-balanced meals provided. NO self-catering!
    • Shared accommodation only.
    • Zero tolerance for drugs, alcohol, begging, prostitution etc.
    • Strict intake process and rules
    • Limited space
    • Daily working schedule & prayer/church/teachings
    • NO pets

Healing Ministry

This Ministry’s main focus is as a Healing Ministry. The word “Raphah” means 1) Healing/restoration, 2) Giant, 3) Be still for I am God, 4) Green (new, growth etc).

Healing = spirit / body / soul

  • Deliverance
  • Prayer
  • Restoration

Raphah Ministries also network with other support resources / professionals / medical experts and do referrals where applicable to assist our clients in partnership to address challenges as a complete system.

Bible Distribution

Spreading the gospel with bible distribution as Missionaries, amongst those less fortunate. Need for Zulu and English bibles.

Homeland missionaries

Homeland/local Missionary Fund

The greatest ministry under Raphah’s umbrella is the work as missionaries.

Serving as missionaries in a local community is called domestic missionaries and within the boarders of your homeland is called local/homeland missionaries. Reaching and restoring the unsaved, unloved and uncared for.

This fund will enable this ministry to have volunteers/missionaries working with us in the field to cover expenses related to their services, accommodation, travelling, medical care etc., whether as domestic or homeland missionaries.

Homeless Services

A variety of community based and in-house services falls under this Division:

  • Protective Haven (not shelter or overnight shelter services)

  • Outreach initiatives / projects / services

  • Solely dependent on community to keep doors open

Journey of faith cottage

Journey of Faith Cottage / Retreat

Self-catering cottage soon available as retreat to address single people or couple healing/restoration issues.

  • weekend packages/programmes
  • single week day packages / programmes
  • NO children (Pref)
  • NO animals
  • NO alcohol, drugs, etc
  • Fees according to needs, programmes etc.

Also available to church leaders/individuals who need a few hours “God-time” to pray, fast, training etc. Hourly fees.

Support / help needed
This cottage need TLC and some construction work before the project can be launched fully. Any help and sponsorships to do some minor construction/building work will kick off this initiative.

This Ministry wish to host camps/seminars/conferences for men in the near future as well as to make the facility available to other Christian organisations/ churches/groups who wish to host such events.

Sponsorships needed to cover costs for such events to make it possible that every man will have the opportunity to attend. A small fee will be charged for each man as a booking fee, but the majority to be covered with sponsorships (if and where possible) for food, expenses, gifts, entertainment/activity items etc.

    pastoral training

    Pastoral Training I - Townships

    Teaching township pastors their role as community and church leaders, spiritual gifts, production of vegetables, pigs and chickens etc.

    This is a 6 month training course and a small fee is required to cover printing and other expenses. Sponsorships for those less fortunate would be an advantage to cover costs and make it possible for everyone to attend who are in the field of being/becoming a pastor.

    Training of pastors (in general) in leadership development, self & spiritual enrichment – theory and practical.

    This is a 12 month course and a small monthly fee is required for those who have the necessary finances. Sponsorships for those less fortunate would be an advantage to cover costs of printing, books, material etc.

    Raphah Ministries help those struggling with addictions/ dependency problems on a smaller scale as an extra service to the community at large:

    Upgrade of facilities / grounds

    The buildings & property need constant maintenance and upgrades.

    Building material, maintenance items, plumbing, carpentry and many other services and skilled help is needed. Volunteers and service providers/contractors needed as well as relevant materials to upgrade the facilities for the benefit of both the ministry as the community at large.

    It is the heart of the founders to convert this property into an oasis for the community to enjoy and to relax. A place where visitors can come and enjoy the atmosphere.

    Expansion of the property is on the table to create a place where the whole family can come and enjoy various activities/sport/entertainment.

    To feed 1x person in our (Protective) Haven, for 1x day costs approximately R100-00 pd. This is minimum basic expenditure for the food & food items for 3x well-balanced meals (as well as the electricity, water, detergents etc that goes with this task)

    Tax Rebate / Refund

    Raphah is registered as PBO (Public Benefit Organisation)/Section 18 at SARS. Donations to this Ministry can be claimed back as a tax rebate. Consult your bookkeeper to assist you in this regard.

    Missionaries – Global Outreach

    Your partnership in this ministry as a whole is not only a gift to this ministry, but 10% of what is given to this Ministry is gifted again to other churches / ministries that have missionaries around the world.     Raphah does not get any funding from businesses, churches or government and are solely dependent on the community to function as domestic/local missionaries. Support needed for wages, running costs, outreaches, maintenance etc.
